This traditional open-sided timber-framed cattle barn had been severely damaged by the elements. Its owners were the recipients of a High-Level Stewardship Grant from Natural England which funded the building's reconstruction.
Conservation work to the building was managed by Oxley Conservation Ltd of Henley on Thames.
Working with Oxley Conservation, Bonwick HC initially produced a desktop assessment and carried out a recording survey of the building.
We supervised its partial dismantling, labelled the component parts and produced detailed measured drawings to aid the building's reconstruction.
Many of the historic structural timbers were re-used, and new components were made using the damaged originals as patterns. The project was completed in 2012, and the building is once again in regular farming use.
